5 Simple Ways to Keep Your Nails Healthy This Summer

Summer is one of my favourite times of year. The days are longer, the gardens are blooming, holidays are on the horizon and we spend more time outdoors enjoying the sunshine. While summer is wonderful, it can also be surprisingly tough on our nails.

Many of us are busier than ever during the warmer months. We are gardening, tackling DIY projects, swimming, spending time outdoors and washing our hands more often after days out or messy jobs. All of these little everyday activities can take their toll.

If you have noticed your nails feeling dry, peeling more easily or breaking, you are definitely not alone.

Here are five simple ways to keep your nails looking and feeling their best this summer.

1. Don't Forget Your Cuticles

Think of cuticle oil as a daily moisturiser for your nails.

Just like your skin can become dry, your nails and cuticles can lose moisture too. Applying cuticle oil once or twice a day helps keep the nail flexible, nourished and less likely to split or peel. It only takes a minute and can make a real difference over time.

2. Wear Gloves for Gardening and Household Jobs

Summer often means more time in the garden or catching up with jobs around the house.

Soil, water, cleaning products and constant scrubbing can all leave nails feeling weaker. Wearing gloves helps protect both your skin and your nails from unnecessary damage.

3. Keep Your Hands Moisturised

We often remember to moisturise our face and body, but our hands can easily be forgotten.

A good hand cream used throughout the day helps keep your skin soft and comfortable while also supporting healthy nails.

Pop one in your handbag or keep one beside the kitchen sink as a reminder.

4. Be Gentle With Your Nails

It can be tempting to use your nails as little tools to open cans, scratch labels or pry things open.

Unfortunately, this puts unnecessary stress on the nail and can lead to chips, splits or breaks.

Treat your nails kindly and they'll stay stronger for longer.

5. Treat Yourself to a Little Maintenance

Sometimes all your nails need is a little professional care.

A regular manicure, builder gel maintenance or nourishing treatment can help keep your natural nails looking healthy, neat and protected throughout the summer months.

More importantly, it's also a lovely excuse to press pause, relax and enjoy a little time just for yourself.

A Little Reminder

Looking after your nails doesn't have to be complicated.

Small daily habits soon add up and can make a noticeable difference in how your nails look and feel.

Remember, if your nails are not perfect, please don't ever feel embarrassed.
