Beauty Facts You Might Know: Expert Tips To Help You Get The Best From Your Beauty Treatments

Have you ever wondered why your gel manicure lasted four weeks one time but only two or three the next? Or why your skin suddenly feels oilier during summer?
As a beauty therapist, these are some of the questions I'm asked most often. The good news is that many of the answers are completely normal and often have nothing to do with the treatment itself.
Here are a few beauty facts that might surprise you…
Why Doesn't My Gel Manicure Always Last the Same Length of Time?
No two manicures are ever exactly the same because your nails are constantly changing.
Several things can affect how long your gel lasts, including:
Using your nails as tools to open packaging or scratch labels.
Frequent exposure to water, cleaning products and hand sanitiser.
Picking at the edges (even a tiny amount can allow lifting to spread).
Hormonal changes, medications and certain health conditions.
Dry nails that aren't regularly nourished with cuticle oil.
One of the simplest ways to help your manicure last longer is to apply cuticle oil every day. Healthy, flexible nails provide a better foundation for your gel polish.
Summer Can Change Your Skin
If your skin feels oilier during warm weather, you are not imagining it.
Higher temperatures encourage your skin to produce more oil, but oily skin isn't always hydrated skin. In fact, skin can become dehydrated during summer, making it even more important to continue using a moisturiser alongside a daily SPF.
Protecting your skin from the sun isn't just about avoiding sunburn. Daily sun protection also helps reduce premature skin ageing and supports long term skin health.
Why Didn't My Lash Lift Last as Long?
Your lashes naturally grow and shed every day as part of their normal growth cycle. This means each lash lift starts with a different set of lashes.
Swimming, holidays, frequent sun exposure and oil based eye products may also affect how long your results appear to last.
Why Does Brow Tint Fade So Quickly?
Brows are exposed to sunshine, cleansing products and skincare every day.
If you regularly exfoliate around the brow area or naturally have oily skin, you may notice your tint fades a little sooner. Brow hairs also naturally shed and regrow throughout the year, so regular maintenance appointments help keep them looking their best.
Why Do I Feel Achy After a Massage?
Many clients tell me they feel wonderfully relaxed after a massage, while others notice a little tenderness the following day. This is completely normal.
Massage increases circulation, works tight muscles and encourages areas of tension to release. Drinking plenty of water afterwards and allowing yourself time to relax can help you enjoy the full benefits of your treatment.
Don't Forget About Your Feet This Summer
Sandals, flip flops and walking barefoot are all part of summer, but they can also leave feet feeling dry and rough.
Using a nourishing foot cream before bed and gently removing hard skin regularly can help keep your feet soft, comfortable and sandal ready all season long.
Small Habits Make a Big Difference
Beautiful results don't just happen during your appointment they are maintained with the little things you do at home.
Simple habits such as applying cuticle oil, moisturising daily, wearing SPF and following your aftercare advice can all help your treatments last longer and keep your skin and nails looking their best.
