The September Reset: Why Getting Back Into Routine is the Perfect Time to Look After You Too.

September has almost arrived and with it comes that familiar feeling of a fresh start.

The summer holidays are winding down, the school runs are returning, routines are being rebuilt and we are slowly remembering what day of the week it is again!

For many of us, summer is all about fitting around everyone else - holidays, days out, children at home, family plans, late nights and a routine that seems to disappear completely.

Although summer can be wonderful, it can also leave us feeling a little tired. When September comes around and life starts to settle, it is a lovely opportunity to stop for a moment and ask “What do I need?”

Your skin might need a reset too

Summer can be hard on our skin - sun exposure, heat, sunscreen, swimming, air conditioning and changes to our normal routine can leave skin feeling dry, dehydrated, dull or more sensitive than usual.

That doesn't necessarily mean your skin is “bad”, it may simply need a little extra care and attention as we move into a new season.

A bespoke facial is a lovely way to assess what your skin needs now and give it some targeted TLC, while also giving you a little uninterrupted time to relax.

What about your hands, nails and feet?

Our beauty needs can change with the seasons too - summer sandals, swimming, holidays, gardening and everyday life can all take their toll on our hands, nails and feet.

September is a great time to get back into a regular nail and foot care routine, whether that is giving your natural nails some attention, treating dry hands or giving tired feet some much needed TLC.

Sometimes you don't need a dramatic transformation. You just want your hands and feet to feel soft, healthy and looked after again.

Don't forget about the rest of you

There is another part of a September reset that often gets forgotten - how you feel.

Getting back into work, school routines, family life and busy schedules can quickly mean we are back to doing everything for everyone else.

Massage and Indian Head Massage can be a lovely way to give yourself some uninterrupted time, particularly if you are carrying tension in your neck and shoulders or simply feeling mentally overloaded.

Sometimes you don't even need a particular reason. You can book an appointment simply because you would like an hour for yourself.

September does not have to mean starting all over again

There is so much pressure around new starts including new routines, new goals, new habits, a new you. Perhaps your September reset doesn't need to be about changing yourself at all. It can simply be about looking after the person who is been doing all the juggling.

A facial because your skin needs it.

A manicure because your nails need some TLC.

A massage because your shoulders are telling you they have had enough.

An hour in the beauty room because you fancy doing something nice for yourself.

Your September reminder

You don't have to wait until you are exhausted, stressed or celebrating something to make time for yourself. Sometimes self care is simply part of your routine.

If September is your opportunity to press the reset button, perhaps you should be part of that reset too.

September is a new season. Make sure there is a little space in it for you.
