When was the last time you were not scrolling, swiping or answering notifications? Be honest… was it even today?

Let me just say this first, I am just as guilty! Lately, there has been a big shift happening. More and more people are realising that constantly being "switched on" is leaving us completely burnt out. Our phones, while super handy, are also sneakily stealing our attention, time and headspace.

So, let’s talk about something small you can do that will make a big difference… a digital detox.

What is a digital detox?

A digital detox means taking a break from your devices, especially your phone, tablet or laptop and consciously spending time offline. No checking emails, social media or group chats. Just a breather from the buzz.

Now before you panic, it does not mean locking your phone in a drawer for a week (unless you want to!). It can be something as simple as:

  • No scrolling after 8pm

  • Having tech free mornings

  • Keeping your phone out of the bedroom

  • Turning off notifications for a few hours a day

Why it matters especially for us women?

From busy mums juggling a million tabs in their brain, to ladies in retirement who love a good Facebook scroll (no judgement!), we all feel it. The mental clutter. The constant comparison. The sleep that does not feel quite restful. The feeling like our mind never gets a break.

Doing a small digital detox can help you:

  • Sleep better (no blue light keeping your brain wired)

  • Feel more present and focused

  • Have deeper face to face conversations (with your kids, partner, friends or in the salon!)

  • Lower stress and boost your mood

How to build it into your self care routine

This is where it gets juicy… imagine pairing your phone free time with something calming and nourishing. Like:

  • A quiet bath and a face mask

  • Getting lost in a good book or podcast

  • Booking a massage or facial and truly switching off

  • Going for a walk with no phone and just breathing in the fresh air

It is the little things that create the biggest shifts.

My tip? Start small

Try one phone free hour each day this week. Pop your phone on ‘Do Not Disturb’ and enjoy the peace. You might be surprised at how freeing it feels.

If you need a proper break from the world, a beauty salon is the perfect place to detox from tech. Just you, calming music, good chats (or quiet time!) and a relaxing treatment. No screens. No interruptions. Just you time.
