Why Do I Feel So Tired At This Time Of Year?

Have you ever got to this time of year and thought “Why do I still feel tired? It is sunny, surely I should feel more energetic?”
It is funny because when spring arrives and the days get brighter, many of us expect to suddenly feel refreshed, motivated and full of energy.
But in reality?
Lots of people feel a little tired, a bit run down, more mentally full than usual and sometimes we don’t even realise why.
Spring and early summer can actually feel busier.
As soon as the weather improves, life often starts quietly speeding up, the diary fills, weekends become busier, holidays get booked, gardens suddenly need attention and here are more social plans, family commitments and jobs around the house. Even lovely things still take energy. Without really noticing, many of us naturally start doing more.
Your body feels busy too
You know that feeling where your shoulders feel tight?
You are clenching your jaw without realising?
You feel a bit mentally scattered or more tired by the evening?
Sometimes it is not one big thing. It’s simply the build up of everyday life - stress, rushing around, poor sleep, sitting awkwardly, doing too much or just not giving yourself much time to stop.
Our bodies are very good at quietly carrying tension until they eventually start asking for a little attention.
There can also be pressure to make the most of it
This one is so common. The weather gets nicer and suddenly it feels like we should be doing more -
Being productive
Seeing people
Sorting jobs
Getting organised
Making plans
Enjoying every sunny moment
And while all of that can be lovely, it can also feel surprisingly tiring.
Sometimes small resets make the biggest difference
Feeling better does not always mean making huge changes. Often, it is the small things that help most -
Going for a gentle walk in fresh air
Drinking more water
Taking a proper lunch break
Going to bed a little earlier
Having quiet time without multitasking
Taking an hour to properly relax and unwind
Even little moments to slow down can help you feel more like yourself again.
A little reminder
If you have been feeling a bit more tired lately, you are probably not imagining it.
This time of year can feel lovely and busy all at once. Sometimes feeling better is not about doing more. Sometimes it is simply about giving yourself permission to pause for a moment.
