Why Women Secretly Deserve A Gold Medal in Summer

Summer sounds lovely in theory, doesn’t it? Longer days, sunshine, BBQs, holidays, garden parties and sandals.
Then reality hits, suddenly there are feet that haven’t seen daylight since September, nails trying to survive gardening, cleaning and everyday life, remembering to put SPF on after you have already been outside for three hours, gardens that somehow become a full time commitment and an invisible pressure to suddenly feel summer ready.
Nobody really talks about how much effort summer actually is as a woman. Most of us are quietly juggling work, family life, house jobs, remembering everyone else’s plans, trying to drink more water and wondering why we still haven’t sat down properly today.
Somehow, amongst all of that, we are expected to feel organised, glowing and completely on top of life.
The Truth About Summer as a Busy Woman
remembering holidays are suddenly close
endless washing from days out and gardening
hands working overtime in the garden
feeling more tired than expected
suddenly realising sandal season is here
Thinking: “Oh… I should probably sort my nails, feet, brows.”
Most women are doing far more than they give themselves credit for.
Why the Little Things Matter
Here is something I have noticed after years in the beauty industry, sometimes it is not really about the treatment. It’s about how it makes you feel afterwards - a little fresher, a little calmer, a little more like yourself again.
Sometimes the smallest things can make the biggest difference -
tidy nails that make you feel more put together
soft, cared for feet that feel sandal ready again
brows or lashes that make mornings easier
a relaxing facial that gives you an hour to switch off
a massage or Indian Head Massage to ease tired shoulders and a busy mind
Not because we are trying to be perfect, not because we should but because feeling cared for matters too.
The Thing Women Are Really Craving
If I’m honest, I don’t think most women are actually craving perfection. I think we are craving -
a breather
some peace and quiet
feeling looked after for once
an hour where nobody asks us where anything is
That little pause is exactly what we need to recharge before carrying on with everything else life throws our way.
A Little Reminder This Summer
You do not have to have everything together. Your garden doesn’t have to look perfect. Your nails don’t have to be flawless. You don’t need to become some magically organised “summer woman” overnight but if you have been thinking “I really should book a bit of time for myself…”. Then consider this your gentle reminder.
Sometimes an hour of calm, a good natter or some peaceful quiet and a little self care can make all the difference. You deserve looking after too.
